This 3,700 +/- acre site is
located on the north side of County Road 305, east of the community
of Seville. The eastern boundary of the site abuts the Volusia
County/Flagler County line. Access to the property is via County
Road 305 (Bunnell Road), which parallels the length of the southern
boundary of the site. This route is a paved thoroughfare.
This property is comprised of several major habitat types including
bottomland swamp, flatwoods/marsh lake, scrub and pine flatwoods.
These habitats tolerate the wetter and drier extremes of their
respective habitats and grade into each other creating several
different ecotonal communities, allowing for considerable plant and
animal diversity. There is significant bedding within the pine
flatwoods and scrub habitats that are currently planted with sand
and slash pine. In addition, some of the natural areas have been
converted to bahia pasture for cattle.
The site is contiguous to a significant area of publicly owned
conservation land. The area situated directly north of the site
(between the site and the confluence of Volusia, Flagler and Putnam
counties) is largely owned by the St. Johns River Water Management
District (SJRWMD) and the State of Florida. The majority of the
northern boundary of the site adjoins the Crescent Lake Conservation
Area, owned by the SJRWMD. This District property is, in turn,
contiguous to the state-owned Haw Creek State Preserve. These
conservation lands extend into Flagler County and Putnam County.
This property will be considered for a conservation easement;
therefore, no management responsibilities are expected at this time.
In addition, this property is currently under a hunting lease and a
long-term timber lease. |
